The Economists’ Statement on Carbon Dividends—the largest statement of economists in history—is an extraordinary document. Its signers include more than 3,500 economists, 15 fmr. Chairs of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, and 27 recipients of the legendary Nobel Prize. In each category, this is largest number to endorse any policy on any topic, ever.
Most importantly, the statement offers a blueprint for how to meet the climate challenge head-on, and with a solution that is environmentally ambitious, economically sound, and politically viable. Carbon dividends is not the only thing we’ll have to do in response to climate change, but it is a cornerstone solution that deserves sweeping, bipartisan support.
To showcase the extraordinary support for carbon dividends, we are excited to be releasing a new video highlighting carbon dividends endorsements from professors on colleges and universities across America. The signees of the Economists’ Statement—overwhelmingly econ professors on our campuses—did their part in shining a spotlight on this consensus solution. Now we, the generation with the most at stake, are carrying the torch forward.
